Human Resources Tips - How to set in motion an Organizational Intervention

Do you need to have an intervention in your organizations? I don't mean one of those awkward scenes you read about in books or see in dramas when an addicts house and friends are waiting for a someone in a room and then collectively tell them the damage they are doing to themselves and others - I'm talking about an organizational intervention. An organizational intervention is a way to stop the current behavior conducted with in an society and convert course to a new, more effective behavior (maybe I am talking about the awkward scene described above?). This may be, for example, to enhance relationships in the middle of two departments or teams, address friction within a team, or to address systemic issues of ability or low productivity.

Here a few tips to help you get the ball rolling on an organizational intervention:

"Are you ready to rumble?" - In order for convert to occur, there needs to be a readiness and openness to the change. As with a drug addict trying to wean themselves off of drugs, if they are not prepared to make the convert vital for a healthier, effective life, the convert will not be successful. For organizations, at a very basic level, there needs to be a general disappointment with the current state and a real desire and willingness by the employees and key players alike to want to change. Do we have all the tools we need? - convert is not easy and can beyond doubt turn disastrous if the habitancy prominent the convert have no idea what they are doing. If you identify convert is vital and want to conduct a convert intervention, make sure there is someone knowledgeable and ready to see the convert through to the end. What's the back up plan? - A convert intervention initiates change, but any plan implemented may need to be amended or wholly scrapped as more facts is collected while the process. Have back up plans for your back up plans and make sure you can result through on meaningful convert - you don't want to stall the process once the ball of convert has begun rolling. Remember, culture matters - Make sure that any convert initiated accounts for the cultural values of the society and those habitancy who include the organization. Culture is an amazingly fine element in the convert process and without accounting for it, convert will not work.
